EL MUSEO DE HISTORIA NATURAL NOEL KEMPFF MERCADO ESTA DE ANIVERSARIO 36 AÑOS

El Museo de Historia Natural Noel Kempff Mercado es, en sentido metafórico, un “banco” que resguarda y documenta, según estándares científicos universales, el patrimonio natural del Oriente Boliviano. En esencia, es una institución científica que estudia la biodiversidad actual y del pasado, y genera un invaluable conocimiento frente a las incertidumbres ambientales del futuro. Sus investigadores, muchos de ellos voluntarios y “ad honorem”, trabajan con el material biológico y geológico de las colecciones científicas, aportan los insumos indispensables para diseñar las herramientas de gestión necesarias para lograr un desarrollo económico y humano sustentable, más justo y con equidad sobre los recursos naturales.

El Museo al estar cumpliendo sus 36 años de existencia, ha logrado posicionarse como una de las más completa Institución Científica Autorizada del país al contar con siete áreas de trabajo (Botánica, Zoología de Invertebrados, Zoología de Vertebrados, Limnología y Recursos Acuáticos, Paleontología, Geografía, Educación Ambiental y Comunicación). Tiene a su cargo la custodia de más de un millón de muestras biológicas y geológicas de importancia a nivel mundial, incluyendo holotipos y paratipos de especies nuevas descritas para la ciencia; aspectos que sin duda son valorados y reconocidos por la comunidad internacional y ubican a la institución como una de las más importantes a nivel nacional y continental.
